I was recently sharpening several hatchets and axes that I have with my Work Sharp WS2000 Tool Sharpener, and it reminded me of what a great timesaver this tool sharpener has been for me. Tool sharpening that would have taken me over an hour or two in the past I can now complete in about 10-15 minutes. And, although I hate to admit it, the tool edges are much sharpener than the edges that I put on my tools with my hand files/sharpeners.
What is also somewhat surprising is just how easy it is to acquire some degree of skill in using the Work Sharp Tool Sharpener to put a nice edge on your tools. The Work Sharp WS2000 has a horizontal (rather than vertical) sharpening/grinding wheel. I have used both types of wheels, and I strongly prefer using a horizontal wheel. (After using both and seeing the results, I gave away my vertical wheel sharpener/grinder to a neighbor.) With the horizontal spin of the wheel, it is much easier to hold the tool’s edge in place on the spinning wheel. By moving the edge of the tool up and down and from side to side on the sharpening wheel, you cannot only put a really nice sharp edge on the tool’s blade but you can also “polish” a narrow strip (on each side of the tool blade) next to the tool’s edge – - – for a nice professionally sharpened look.
I probably cannot mention enough about how easy this tool sharpener is to use. If you have never used a horizontal wheel tool sharpener like this before, you have probably taken my comment about “easy to use” somewhat with a “grain of salt” – - – but that is simply the truth!
